Faith over Fear

What kind of soil is in our heart? I once heard a Bible teacher suggest we may have a combination of soils. Various seasons of life produce trials and tests resulting in a composition of different soils.

Scripture tells us that God has given us everything we need for a life of godliness. Do we believe it? Or are we searching for significance in wrong relationships, positions of power and authority, and good works done with wrong motives?

Are we “pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps” or seeking godly counsel and prayer? Are we allowing other believers access to our lives to hold us accountable for our thoughts and actions?

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22

Satan hates when we cultivate prayer. His plan is to fuel fear and unbelief, keeping us from reading and memorizing Scripture. Blocking our belief is his specialty. Spiritual warfare can strip the soil of nutrients needed for God’s Word to grow. But take heart, Ephesians 6 gives us spiritual armor and a plan to overcome the enemy.

Temptations trip us up time and time again. Sinful habits are like rocks in our soil preventing God’s Word from taking root. If we don’t clear them out, our faith may be short lived and unfruitful.

Fear and anxiety choke out truth and stunt the growth of God’s Word in our heart. Pleasure and comfort can lure us into compromise and complacency, leaving us with immature belief.

God has so much more for our lives. Only when we are honest about what kind of soil we are cultivating can we experience growth. Then we can reach out to touch the hem of Jesus and find hope and healing. Peace can be had in the storm. Confession of sin brings our faith into his presence without fear.

When we weed the garden of our heart, clear out the rocks, and cultivate good soil, we find the pathway to expect the miraculous. Dead relationships brought back to life. Fierce faith able to weather the storms of life. Courage to believe Jesus is all we need to overcome our fears. Hope to live amazed by God.
