Hang Onto Possible Endings

Hope in the Fire

God, You spoke this world into existence. By Your powerful Word You created the forests and now they are being destroyed by powerful fires. We ask for Your mercy to flow to our nation to stop the destruction.

We know that some fires are started by natural forces, but others could have been prevented. Forgive us for being careless with Your creation.

Send rain or snow to douse the raging fires devastating thousands of acres of Your beauty.

If these fires are by Your hand, we pray that in Your wrath, remember mercy.

“Lord, I have heard of your fame;
    I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord.
Repeat them in our day,
    in our time make them known;
    in wrath remember mercy.” Habakkuk 3:2

We pray the animals will make it out of the fires and find shelter away from the scorching heat.
Please protect Your creation, Lord.

We also pray for those on the front lines fighting the fires. Please keep them safe as they fly overhead with water and fire retardants. Inspire chemists and engineers to create new chemicals and planes to disperse them to hasten the end to the fires devouring everything in their path.

Father, we pray for the families of those fighting these fires in our country. Remind them that You hold their loved one in the palm of Your hand. You are trustworthy, faithful, and more than capable of bringing peace to unsettled hearts and increasing their faith. Fill them with fresh hope to trust You.

Strengthen the firefighters. Grant them wisdom, discernment, and courage to continue in the midst of what seems like an unending battle. Please protect their lungs from smoke inhalation and their bodies from burns. Unite them in the goals of ending the fires and help them lay aside any personal feelings that interfere with job performance. May they always have each other’s back.

Father, comfort those who are evacuating their homes. Please bring peace in the midst of this trial. May believers rise up in faith to believe You are still good despite the loss of jobs or homes and property. Remind them that everything is possible for You and that You can work all things for their good and Your glory.

God, we are reminded that You were with Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fire. In the midst of their fiery trial, You showed Yourself strong on their behalf. Do it again today, Lord.

Many need to know You see them and care about their circumstances.

Raise up believers to minister to their needs. Strengthen believers to stand firm in their faith, despite personal loss. Holy Spirit, please empower them to be witness to these truths.

Father, we know that You make all things new and that fires can be beneficial to the land. We are also aware that sometimes you send natural disasters to get our attention. Please use these devastating fires to bring us to an awareness that life isn’t all about us. Inspire us with Your love for Your creation and humanity.

Sweep through America with fresh wind and fresh fire of Your Holy Spirit to convict us of sin, bring repentance and the fire of revival.

For the glory of Your kingdom, amen
