Hang Onto Possible Endings

Bold Faith and Worship

One of my favorite stories of the New Testament is found in Luke chapter seven. But first, let’s look at the bold faith of a Roman centurion. Hearing that Jesus was in town filled him with hope that his dying servant might be healed. Going courageously to the Jewish elders, who traditionally hated the Romans, he asked them to approach Jesus on his behalf.

Believing Jesus had the power to heal, he lacked confidence in bringing his request to Jesus personally. Ever feel like the centurion? Unworthy to make requests of God? Sure, you’ve heard stories of miraculous answers to prayer, but do you still wonder if Jesus would do it for you?

Friend, Jesus is waiting to hear from you.

He longs to connect personally with us. Dying in our place, He offers us a relationship with the Creator of the universe and the Lover of our soul. Jesus is ready to answer our prayers offered in faith and surrendered to His will.

The whole reason Jesus came was to seek and save the lost. I love His compassion shown to the widow in raising her son from the dead. Take note, she didn’t even ask this of Jesus. He saw her need, came to her, and worked a miracle.

The Lord sees our need. Before a word is on our tongue in prayer, He knows it completely. God is always at work around us. Even when we can’t see the evidence; we can trust Him.

It’s easy to take our eyes off truth and focus on our circumstances. Pandemics and politics tempt us to wonder, is God really for us? Even John the Baptist had questions about Jesus.

I think we can all agree that life is not what we hoped for right now. Christmas celebrations and traditions will be altered. Add personal problems, health issues, financial challenges and it’s enough to make even the most faithful lose hope.

Enter my favorite encounter with Jesus. A sinful woman learns that He is eating dinner with a Pharisee. Cultural dinner parties of the day had guest reclining at a low table while others stood against the walls of the room.

This uneducated, sinful woman came boldly into a room full of men, to demonstrate her adoration of Jesus. Verse 30 tells us the Pharisees rejected God’s purpose for their lives. Not this woman.

Pushing past the judgement of family, friends, and Pharisees, she unashamedly lived her love out loud, grateful for forgiveness.

“Her many sins have been forgiven-for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”

Jesus

The adoration and worship of this woman challenges me. Would I be so bold? Would you?

Friend, Jesus invites you to come to Him no matter what is in your past. No need to hide that besetting sin, He knows and loves you anyway. Lacking faith? He knows that too and beckons for you to come boldly to His throne of grace.
