The camera was not kind, to put it mildly. I was shocked at what I saw. I tend to overindulge at Thanksgiving, but seriously, it looks like I ate the whole turkey myself!
Change perspective and another picture is taken. Ahh, now that’s more like it. The shot from above reveals more of what I hoped for. A change in perspective made all the difference.
When I saw these two photos, a spiritual analogy emerged.
We tend to look at life from only one perspective…our earthly, self-absorbed one.
When life doesn’t turn out like we planned, our unmet expectations turn into disappointment. Left unchecked, disappointments can change to discouragement, discouragement can slip into depression and depression leads to despair.
Enter a perspective from above. God’s perspective.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4
What if you let disappointments build your character, teach you patience or perseverance? Why not let that discouragement lead you to the heart of The Encourager; the One who is for you and not against you.
Next time the picture doesn’t look like you want, consider changing your perspective; you’ll be glad you did.
